I have decided to create this page for those of you that are curious about what exactly I have been updating each time I said I have. To make things a bit simpler I'll show you the story structure as it is as of 10/07/2019 which is pretty much just like this:
Essentially this is how my story looks as I'm creating it and this is pretty much the reason I have been calling it a 'non-linear' story. Basically each time you make a decision more possibilities can open up but they can lead back to the same place if they haven't diverged enough. It's a bit of a mess but having been the one to create it I know more or less what each of these passages is for and roughly where they'll be heading.
For my story I'll have three main branches. So one where you find your friend Penny and start off with her by your side. One where you find Baz, your nemesis, and ultimately drag him along. The final branch is where you initially start off on your own having gone through the choices in such a way as to end up without either companion at the start. Don't worry too much about going it alone as I like writing the other two characters too much to not have them interact with you.
Right now I'm at the point where the route with Baz is the most developed and currently working on playing catch up with the Penny and Simon alone routes. These branches will eventually reach points where decisions made will end up in game over screens but the early stages of the story are relatively safe and decisions this early won't affect things too much.
Update: 20/10/2024
Made some changes to the CSS Stylesheet on the game itself to fix the gradient background in place in the window as opposed to stretching with the amount of text on each page. This will give it more consistency with the rest of the site and help with those pages where the purple was somewhat overwhelming towards the end of the longer passages. This will also aid in keeping sufficient contrast for those with colourblindness and other vision impairments.
I have expanded on the story slightly. I can't exactly remember what parts are new since the last update and I've been rewording a few parts to try and keep the tense consistent. It's tricky to know what to use in a first person perspective, especially as the story will address you, the reader, at times when a decision needs to be made. I hope it reads more naturally than it did before.
This project will always be a marathon rather than a sprint and I hope you enjoy looking out for the updates.
